World Book Night is the annual celebration of books and reading on 23rd April that brings people from all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire others to read more. Presented by The Reading Agency in partnership with Specsavers, 2021 marks the 10th Anniversary of World Book Night; this years theme is "Books to Make you Smile".

How is St. Antony's Centre celebrating World Book Night?

We will be holding book giveaways for community members to reignite a love of reading or perhaps spark a new found joy of reading!

Reading is something everyone should be able to enjoy and access to books should not be a barrier to reading so come and visit one of our stalls to collect your FREE book

Friday 23rd April come and visit us at:

Accrington Market - 10am till 2pm

*We were unable to participate in World Book Night as we had wanted last year, this means we have more books than ever to give away. Note however we cannot promise the title you would like will be available, we will be operating on a first come first serve basis.

In England, 31% of adults don’t read for pleasure, rising to 46% of young people (aged 16 to 24). Reading for pleasure is linked to fewer feelings of stress and depression, better sleeping patterns and improved literacy.

World Book Night is run by The Reading Agency, a UK-wide charity that tackles life’s big challenges through the proven power of reading.

As well as celebrating reading, The Reading Agency works with publishers to donate books to organisations across the country, including prisons, colleges, hospitals, care homes and homeless shelters, and many more. St Antony's Centre is one of these organisations.

These organisations reach non-readers and those who don’t have access to books. Since the first World Book Night celebration in 2011, The Reading Agency have given out almost 3 million books. They believe that everyone can participate in World Book Night, and for many this book will start their reading journey.

How else does St Antony's Centre support the work of The Reading Agency?

St Antony's Centre is a registered Charity and training provider; supporting adults in communities across the North West to access training for over 40 years.
