Fundraising, Donations and Legacies

As a registered charity with the aim of improving the life chances of and opportunities for people in local communities, particularly those who are disadvantaged, we are always grateful to receive donations or legacies from the general public, individuals or organisations to develop and maintain our mission and work.  Such donations help the Centre to provide advice, guidance and training to those who need it most in the community.
We are hopeful that friends and supporters of the Centre may wish to consider donating directly to the Centre, making a Gift Aid pledge, or leaving a gift in your will as part of your legacy.  All donations are greatly appreciated, no matter how small, and bring real help to our clients, many of whom are also struggling at this time.
Cash Donations
If you wish to donate by cash, you can do so by calling in at the Centre, Monday to Thursday 10.00am to 4.00pm.  As part of your cash donation, and if you are a UK tax-payer, we can also ask you to complete a Gift Aid declaration (see below).
Cheque Donations
If you wish to donate by cheque, please make cheques payable to St Antony's Centre for Church and Industry.  If you are posting your cheque to the Centre,  and you are a UK tax-payer, please download and complete the Gift Aid form (see below) and enclose it with your cheque.  The address to send your cheque to is our Trafford Park address shown at the bottom of this web page.
Donations by Bank Transfer or Faster Payment
If you wish to donate via bank transfer, including faster payment, you can do so via your online bank account.  When doing so, you will need to specify very clearly the full Centre name as the recipient ('St Antony's Centre' will not usually pass the online verification checks carried out by your bank) and the Centre's bank account details which are shown below.
Bank Account Details
Bank : Co-op Bank
Account Name : St. Antony's Centre for Church and Industry
Sort Code : 08-92-99
Account Number : 65856370
When making a payment, please use the reference DONATION followed by your name,  e.g. DONATION - ANDREW SMITH
If you are unknown to us, please do contact us by email to let us know that you have made a donation as we would like to record this properly and acknowledge our thanks to you.  You can, of course, set up a regular standing order, perhaps on a monthly basis, instead of a one-off payment.   As part of your online donation, and if you are a UK tax-payer, you can also send us a Gift Aid declaration (see below).

Gift Aid
Gift Aid enables charities to claim the tax paid (usually at 20%) by donors who are UK tax-payers on the amounts they donate to charities or charitable causes.  For example, if a person donates £100 to a charity, then it is assumed that this amount was originally part a person's taxed income and they would have received £125 had they not paid tax at 20%, that is £25 in tax, to receive £100 net.  Therefore, for a £100 donation, the tax that can be claimed back from the government by a charity is £25.  There is no additional cost to the person who has donated and this is not reflected in any tax code or tax return (except for higher-rate tax payers or those completing their own tax self-assessment).
Gift Aid Declaration Form
To enable the Centre to claim back any tax you have paid on charitable donations (including for the past four financial years and in the future), you can simply complete a Gift Aid Declaration form and return it to the Centre.  We do the rest by submitting your details and the claim to HMRC.  You can download the form using the link below.
A Gift in Your Will
Over the years, we have benefitted from some of our friends and supporters who have, very kindly, left an instruction of a cash or other gift of value to the Centre in their will.  These legacies have been used for the benefit of the Centre and Charity, and ultimately to support the people in their communities for whom our mission and objectives were primarily formed.
There are essentially three types of gift that can be left to the Centre in a will:
  • a residual gift or legacy is a share of your estate that is paid after your debts, funeral costs and other liabilities have been settled and all the cash and specific legacies have been distributed;
  • a pecuniary gift or legacy as a specific amount of money that you wish to leave;
  • a specific gift of an item such as an antique or property.
Writing your Will instructions
Writing a will is the best way to provide for the people and causes you love, and let friends and family know how you'd like to remembered.  When writing your will, you should ideally seek advice from a solicitor and appoint an executor who will, after your death, carry out your instructions.
Further advice about writing a will and leaving a legacy to a Charity is available from:
Leaving a Gift in your Will to St Antony's Centre
If you wish to leave a gift in your will to St Antony's Centre, you need to:
  • if you wish to, seek advice from a solicitor or other qualified advisor, e.g. financial advisor;
  • cancel and rewrite any existing wills or create a codicil (additional document) to record the changes to your existing will;
  • decide how much of your estate you wish to leave to the Centre;
  • decide whether any cash gift will be a fixed pecuniary amount or a residual gift of percentage of your estate once other legacies and costs have been settled;
  • decide if any items, including property, are to be left to the Centre in full or in part (a percentage);
  • state if your legacy is for general purposes (the Centre trustees can decide in what area and how to spend the funds) or specify a particular purpose, project or activity (e.g. training, heritage);
  • use very specific wording (your solicitor will give advice) such as
    • I bequeath a  20% share of all of my residual estate to St. Antony's Centre for Church and Industry (Registered Charity Number 1164837) of Eleventh Street, Trafford Park, Manchester M17 1JF to be used for its general and charitable purposes (or other specific project)
    • I bequeath the sum of £2,000 to St. Antony's Centre for Church and Industry (Registered Charity Number 1164837) of Eleventh Street, Trafford Park, Manchester M17 1JF to be used for its general and charitable purposes (or other specific project)
    • I bequeath a 50% share of the sale proceeds, after other expenses and liabilities, of my property at (give address) to St. Antony's Centre for Church and Industry (Registered Charity Number 1164837) of Eleventh Street, Trafford Park, Manchester M17 1JF to be used for its general and charitable purposes (or other specific project)
  • ensure that the details of the Centre are recorded accurately in your will as follows, to avoid confusion with any other organisation with St Antony's in its name:
St. Antony's Centre for Church and Industry
Eleventh Street
Trafford Park
Manchester M17 1JF
Registered Charity 1164827 (England and Wales)

  • inform the Centre of your wishes (verbally or in writing) if you wish to do so.  This is not essential and we appreciate that you may revoke your gift to the Centre in your will at any time as your circumstances or wishes change.
