A History of the Catholic Church in North Trafford
by Lawrence R Gregory

We are pleased to have on sale the new book 'A History of the Catholic Church in North Trafford' by Lawrence R. Gregory.
In 1975 the Catholic community in North Trafford boasted nine churches, 41 Sunday Masses, ten junior schools, three secondary schools and 16 priests. By 2024, there are just five churches remaining open, with seven Sunday Masses, served by four priests (one shared with Moss Side), seven junior schools and one secondary school.
This book is a tour of the rise and fall of the old faith in this area.  It covers the stories of all the Catholic parishes in the former Boroughs of Stretford and Urmston, with over 300 pages of history, memories and photographs about the churches and schools of St Ann’s, Stretford, English Martyrs, Urmston, St Alphonsus, Brooks Bar, St Anthony, Trafford Park, St Lawrence, Old Trafford, St Teresa, Firswood, St Hugh of Lincoln, Lostock, St Monica, Flixton, Our Lady of the Rosary, Davyhulme. St Joseph’s Loreto Day School, Old Trafford and the Secondary Modern Schools of St Mary’s, Stretford, St Paul’s, Urmston and Cardinal Vaughan, Firswood, as well as St Anthony’s High School.
This book is available from the St. Antony's Centre at the specially-discounted price of £10.00, rather than the £15.00 (paperback) published price.
We can take orders over the telephone or by email and for an additional charge for postage and packaging, we can send the book to your home address.
