Introduction
This Award for IT Users is an ideal first step in understanding IT and can aid progression to further qualifications. The Award and Certificate for IT Users shows you have developed your skills and confidence to work effectively with computers.
This is a practical qualification which offers a range of units to study – word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Start IT (iTQ) is based on National Standards developed in collaboration with e-skills UK and is a QCF qualification.
Course content
This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for you to become digitally literate in the use of a range of ICT applications that can lead to further learning or entry into employment.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to progress onto further learning as stated below. Over 60% of this qualification is vocational that will require you to practically demonstrate the skills and knowledge learnt.
You will be expected to achieve a mandatory unit: IT User fundamentals
And select from a choice of the optional units below:
• Presentation software
• Spreadsheet software
• Word processing software

Progression opportunities
Learners can progress to a Level 1 ITQ or other IT user courses
Teaching and Assessment
A variety of methods and materials are used, with an emphasis on practical experience in workshop activities – all supported by manuals and materials specially prepared by the Centre. Individualised support and tutoring is a specific and key feature of our teaching delivery. Every learner is supported to ensure they achieve the maximum from studies and experiences with us.
This programme is a continually assessed as it progresses and each unit is individually assessed. End of unit assessments are taken when the learner has reached the required standard. The assessments are marked by the tutor, internally assessed by staff and externally moderated by City & Guilds.

No prior qualifications are required but a commitment to learning and developing your own skills are required.
