Description
One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. For many people, diagnosis can be a daunting and overwhelming time. It’s important that people can access the right levels of care and services when they need it most. As cancer treatments are improved and more people survive cancer, it’s vital to understand the impact of living with cancer long-term and the best way to provide support. This short course is great for anyone working in health and social care, and it will also be useful if you care for someone living with cancer.
• Unit 01 -Cancer awareness:
In this unit the learner will gain knowledge of the different categories and types of cancer and its prevalence in the UK. The learner will also understand how the approach to cancer care has changed over time.
• Unit 02 – Introduction to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer:
In this unit the learner will gain knowledge of detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer .The learner will also understand the impact of being diagnosed with cancer has on an individual, family and friends.
• Unit 03 – Introduction to cancer care and support:
In this unit the learner will gain knowledge and understanding of how family members and others support individuals with cancer care. The learner will also understand how coping strategies and self-management can help support emotional and mental wellbeing.
• Unit 04 – Introduction to end of life and bereavement care:
In this unit the learner will gain knowledge of end of life and bereavement care and what factors can affect an individuals views on death and dying. The learner will also understand the process of loss and the stages of grief.
Teaching and Assessment
Assessments are due at the end of each unit. Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.
Entry Requirements
You will need to be over the age of 19 and been resident in the EU for at least 3 years. Learners must be educated up to Level 2 standard.
