Go-On, become a Digital Champion!

Go-On, become a Digital Champion!

Go-On, become a Digital Champion!

Tue 29th Nov 2011

If you are reading this then chances are you know how to use the Internet but what about the 8.4 million adults in the UK who do not? Why not give a hour of our time to help someone discover what the Internet can do for them? Why not become a digital champion?

Becoming a digital champion is fun and easy to do. You do not need to be an expert with computers, you just need to be able to show someone how to get started and show them the basics. By giving your time, you could show someone how to save money online, how to find a new hobby, keep in touch with old friends or complete a weekly food shop.

A simple way to start would be to show someone how to conduct a simple search using Google or Bing or you could go straight to certain sites and show them the advantages and benefits. Maybe you can show them how to view their house on Google Earth, how to find a program on BBC Iplayer or look for their favourite recipes? Don't panic if things get too technical, there’s plenty or advice and support videos available online.

The chances are we all know someone who has never been online; a friend, a relative or a neighbour however even if we do not, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities available with local charities, community groups and organisations.

Whether you wish to pledge your time to help someone in the near future or you are currently helping someone, please show your support by pledging to become a digital champion. Please enter your details into the widget to join the growing network of digital champions.
