Crown Paints Brush Up On Skills
The Reachout project was formed to support GMB Union members, their friends and family in the North West and Irish Region. The project is funded through the Union Learning Fund (ULF) and managed from St Antony’s Centre.
Recently, GMB Union Learning Representative Gillian Glover has been working closely with her local branch, ReachOut project workers and the management at Crown paints to encourage members and colleagues back into education. GMB and Crown Paints at Darwen have embarked on an exciting new project supported through the GMB ReachOut project. The initiative will enable staff from across the organisation to improve their skills and career opportunities by enabling them access to courses delivered by local providers at the Darwen site.
Dave Flanagan Reachout Project worker said: GMB are working very closely with management to improve learning and skills for staff here. Union support and funding has enabled us to start things off. The partnership between GMB and Crown Paints is an excellent example of how individuals, the organisation and the community as a whole can benefit. We are currently finalising a learning agreement with the company which we hope to be in place soon. Thanks to the support of her local Branch Gillian has done a fantastic job in getting this off the ground and we are now starting to see the fruits of her labour.
Gillian Glover GMB ULR said: I was a little apprehensive at the start of this process about whether we could get this project off the ground. I am relatively new to the ULR role but have been enthused by the support from my colleagues. It started with the GMB Learning Bus coming on site when we carried out a survey and staff could speak to advisers about different aspects of learning, we have now hit an exciting time with skills for life and computer courses starting next week here on site.
